Brian Fegely was the son of one of our favorite teachers, Charles Fegely. It is hard to believe that just two short years after we said goodbye to Mr. Fegely, we would now have to say goodbye to Brian. Besides being know as "Mr. Fegely's son", Brian was known in school as the kid who could really draw, the kid who could spout out quotes from science fiction to medieval history, and the rocket kid. Those of us who knew him more, also knew of his fight with diabetes. For many of us, it was our first encounter with the condition.
It is his fight with diabetes that finally took him from us. In February, his neighbors found him on the floor in the home where he grew up. The insulin he had taken had expired. He recovered and returned home, only to be struck down by a blood clot.
Mr. Fegely taught us many things... and so did Brian. Those who knew him learned to stand up for your own values and go where they lead, not where the pack leads you. To voice your opinion firmly, but research it first and be ready to change if proven wrong. In the end, he showed us that life is precious and far too short. And finally, even after his passing, he showed us by our coming together, that our class which was once comprised of cliques was really a family who could come together to grieve and celebrate a life. Brian's life.
We will miss you, old friend. Rest in peace until we meet again.
