Of course, those who were going had to get together first to compare notes, so we headed to Tom's Bar for recon. Then it was off to our old high school (now the 9th Grade Center) for a reception. We got special parking passes to park right in front of the building... while parents, teachers, and graduates filled all of the ball fields and parking lots on both sides of Lewis Road. We gathered in the Library for a lovely reception complete with a nice hor d'oeuvres spread. We had a lovely time chatting (and Lew Phillips got the OK to sneak out and wander the halls... check out the video).
Then it was time for commencement. We showed the class of 2023 that even when you celebrate your 50th, you aren't old yet! We headed to the field bearing our Anniversary banner to the applause from the crowd! The first class to bring their own banner! SFHS73 sets the bar high again! The Class of 2023 lucked out in that they didn't have our storm, but the haze from the fires in Canada was pretty heavy. (So let's see... We had a flood, they had fires, which means the class of 2073 should get locusts.)
After several speeches, it was Mickey's turn for the Key Speech. Not only did he give a wonderful speech, but he also was honored by getting a plaque on the Spring-ford Wall of Fame! Congrats, Mickey! Well deserved! Then it was time for the newly released prisoners... er... graduates to get their diplomas - all 650 of them! They processed through in two rows at an amazing, yet distinguished, pace.
A great evening as we passed the baton to the Class of 2023. Good luck on your journeys, SFHS2023! Keep that bar high!
